Snowballs for Sale

Olive and I have been busy making snowballs in Florida!  Now, we’re ready to add a  final bit of charm to our display with a homemade “for sale” sign using Therm O Web’s Sticky Strip Runner. There are many materials you could use to make this sign, but I really wanted to  make it look like a child threw it together using things from around the house like paint, clothespins, etc.

So here is what you will need:

• Therm O Web Sticky Strip Runner
• Plain wooden sign with wire hanger ($1 at Joann’s)
• One sheet of designer scrapbook paper (background)
• One sheet of plain scrapbook paper (foreground)
• Acrylic Paint in contrast to foreground (I used Americana in “buttermilk”)
• Skinny paintbrush
• Modge Podge

The first step is to remove the wire hanger from the wooden sign. I just turned over the wooden sign and uncoiled the wires.

Trace the wooden sign’s shape onto both pieces of scrapbook paper.

Cut out the rectangle shape (both pieces of scrapbook paper).

Rremove 1/4″ from each side of the foreground scrap of paper with gently tearing.

Write out your message in pen or pencil for a guide.

Paint over the letters using a skinny paintbrush. (Several applications may be necessary.) Let it completely dry.

Glue the background piece of paper onto the wood sign with the Modge Podge glue.

Take a couple of pins and poke through the holes in the back of the wooden sign up through the paper.

Insert the wire hanger back into the wooden sign through the holes.

Using the Therm O Web Sticky Strip Runner, add a couple of strips onto the background.

Center the painted foreground piece over the background and press in place. Use a clothespin to clip the sign to a basket.
